Out-of-State DUI and Location Search: Guides by SBD Marketing

Visitors, students, business travelers and truck drivers get arrested far from home every day, and most look for a lawyer after they’ve left. These guides explain how those searches work and how a DUI firm can be found by people who aren’t nearby.

How DUI Attorneys Can Reach Out-of-State Drivers Searching for Legal Help

Our main guide explains who out-of-state drivers are, why searching from home hides local firms, what an out-of-state driver page should answer, how CDL holders are affected, which ad settings matter, and the licensing and referral rules that apply.

For DUI and criminal defense firms

How SBD Marketing helps DUI firms reach drivers from out of state

SBD Marketing works only with criminal defense law firms, and only with one firm per city. For DUI practices in places people visit, that work includes the location searches described here.

  1. DUI pages built for visitors
Out-of-state driver pages and location pages for the areas and courts where visitors are arrested, written to rank for searches made from other states.
  2. A Google Business Profile for the first search
Accurate hours, categories and phone handling so drivers searching near your office right after release can find and reach you.
  3. Clear answers for AI search
Plain, accurate answers about hearings, deadlines and remote representation that ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity can repeat when a driver asks from home.

Five checks for reaching out-of-state DUI clients

Try these yourself. Most take only a few minutes.

Search like a visitor who went home

Search for a DUI lawyer in your county while adding a different home state to the query, such as “DUI in your county, I live in Ohio”, and see who appears.

Look for an out-of-state driver page

If your site has no page answering whether a visitor must return for court, write one.

Check your hearing deadline wording

Make sure your site states your state’s administrative hearing deadline accurately and near the top of the page.

Review your ad location setting

If you run Google Ads, check whether campaigns use Presence or Presence or interest, and whether that matches your goal.

Show your time zone

List your office hours with the time zone, and say how after-hours calls are handled.

How we put these guides together

Each guide draws on state and federal law, motor vehicle agency sources, Google’s documentation for Search, Business Profiles and Ads, the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct, and what SBD Marketing sees working with defense firms. Guides describe the law in general terms and are not legal advice. Out-of-State DUI and Location Search is researched and published by SBD Marketing.
